Around 30 people turned out for the very first Deloitte Private Club meeting in Christchurch on Wednesday night.
The night began with a welcome from Christchurch partner, Shari Carter, who acknowledged that the club was there to act as a support for business owners.
“We recognise for a business owner it can be lonely out there so we’ve created this environment here in Christchurch for business owners to get together and chew the fat so to speak. For those not in the know, Deloitte Private Club has been operating in Auckland and Wellington for the last year and we’ve had fantastic feedback from those involved.”
She also took the chance to say how excited she was to host everyone in Deloitte’s spanking new Christchurch offices that opened last month.
The evening’s sessions took on the theme ‘At the edge of failure’ which was a fitting topic for guest speaker Sarah Walker – one of the top BMX riders in the world. Sarah was placed 4th at the 2008 Olympics and gained a Silver medal in London in 2012.
She offered a highly relevant speech to business owners who like her, need to make bold moves and execute ‘at the edge of failure’ to grow their businesses. She also touched on how she goes about setting goals and how to navigate life when you’re consistently “at the edge of failure”.
According to one audience member, Sarah was “casual, engaging and gained a fair few laughs”.
Following Sarah’s speech was a chance to eat and network, after which the breakout groups commenced offering a business owners a chance to share stories about their success in business and get to know each other better.
