Guest Blog: Tumbling tax compliance costs

Hamilton Tax and Private Partner, Greg Harris, recently contributed an opinion piece to Stuff.co.nz covering how tax compliance costs continue to fall for SMEs. 

Tax compliance costs continue to fall for small to medium sized enterprises according to a report released by government. The results, which show a decline of 11.7 per cent between 2004 and 2013, have been welcomed by the Small Business Minister Craig Foss. Most of that decline occurred between 2004 and 2009. Since then the rate of decline has slowed. The impact of tax compliance costs on SMEs is disproportionately higher than their larger corporate counterparts. The higher costs hinder SME growth.
